With with 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers being brought to a close, SportsworldGhana.com brings to you the three coaches who have so far been fired after failing to guide their respective countries to the Africa Cup of Nations which will be staged in Cameroon.
1. Molefi Ntseki- South Africa
The Bafana Bafana coach was also shown the exit by the South Africa Football Association (Safa) on Wednesday.
This came after last Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Sudan in Omdurman that saw Bafana fail to qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) when a draw would have seen the South Africans reach the tournament finals in Cameroon.
He was appointed to replace the head coach he was assistant to, Stuart Baxter, in late August 2019.
Baxter resigned in early August 2019, weeks after steering Bafana to a quarterfinal place at the 2019 Afcon finals in Egypt.
Ntseki immediately faced challenges.
2. Claude Le Roy – Togo
Head Coach of the Togolese National Football Team, Claude Le Roy was sacked after failing to guide his side to the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Hawks who finished bottom of their group failed to record a win in all their group matches, including a 2-1 defeat at Home to Kenya in their final game of the qualifiers.
Le Roy had been in charge of the Togolese senior Team since 2016, guiding the team to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, making a personal Record, 9th appearance in the Tournament.
He had prior to that managed Ghana, Senegal, Cameroun and a host of other nations. His greatest feat yet, is guiding Cameroun to glory in the 1988 Africa Cup of Nations.
3. Luis Goncalves – Mozambique
Mozambique coach Luis Goncalves became the lasted casulty to be fired on Thrursday since the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying concluded this week, losing his job after failing to reach the finals.
A national football federation statement confirmed the Maputo-born handler had been sacked after the Mambas (Snakes) lost 1-0 at home to Cape Verde and finished last in a group including Cameroon and Rwanda.
Meanwhile, Two-time Africa Cup of Nations winner Herve Renard quit his position as coach of with Morocco, following the country’s shock early exit at the tournament in Egypt.
