FIFA referee Julian Nii Akwa Nunoo has been honored as the best referee of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season at the recently-concluded Ghana Football Association (GFA) Awards ceremony held in Accra.
Nunoo, who embarked on his refereeing journey at the young age of 17, earned the prestigious title of the top referee in the previous Premier League season, as recognized by the country’s football governing body.
At 32 years of age, Julian Nunoo’s remarkable contributions throughout the season were duly acknowledged by the Ghana Football Association. In recognition of his outstanding performance, he was presented with a brand new Hyundai Elantra, a valuable prize worth a substantial amount, along with a commemorative plaque.
Notably, Nunoo has earned his place among the leading referees in West Africa, earning recognition from CAF (Confederation of African Football). He recently officiated the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round first-leg match between ASC Kara of Togo and Académie Football Amadou Diallo from Côte D’Ivoire.
It’s worth mentioning that Julian Nunoo follows in the footsteps of his father, retired FIFA referee Thomas Nunoo, in pursuing a successful career in football officiating.
