Goalkeeper Frederick Asare, a regular member of the Black Stars squad since March, has been left out of Ghana’s latest selection by head coach Otto Addo.
The omission follows Asare’s recent struggles with Asante Kotoko, particularly highlighted in the club’s first loss of the season to Legon Cities.
Asare’s performance in that game prompted Kotoko’s head coach, Prosper Ogum, to make a change, bringing in Guinean goalkeeper Mohammed Camara for their subsequent match against Heart of Lions. This setback has delayed Asare’s anticipated Black Stars debut, leaving him with the task of regaining his form at the club level to reenter the national team setup.
In Asare’s absence, Abdul Nurudeen has earned a recall to the squad. Nurudeen, who has recently secured the starting goalkeeper role for KAS Eupen in Belgium’s Challenge Pro League, brings experience and recent match fitness to the team.
The Black Stars face two crucial AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Angola in Luanda on November 15 and Niger at home on November 18. With Ghana’s qualification hopes also dependent on Sudan dropping points in their remaining games, securing victories in both matches is essential for Otto Addo’s side.
