Angola head coach Pedro Goncalves has acknowledged the challenging road Ghana faces in its quest to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking ahead of their Group F qualifier on Friday, November 15, at Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda, Goncalves shared his view on Ghana’s situation in the qualifying rounds.
Ghana, currently third in Group F with just two points from four matches, trails Angola and Sudan. Winless so far, the Black Stars must secure victories in their final matches and hope for Sudan to falter to keep their qualification hopes alive.
“For us, playing against Ghana is always special,” Goncalves told Ghanasportspage. “Ghana is one of the best teams in African football, with exceptional players, especially in the midfield and attack.”
Despite Ghana’s formidable reputation, Goncalves remarked on the difficulty of their qualification path: “Ghana is undoubtedly a strong contender, but their chances of qualifying are low at the moment. They not only have to win but also rely on Sudan, who need just one point from two games. It’s a very tough challenge for Ghana.”
The Black Stars completed their final training session on Tuesday and are scheduled to travel to Luanda later today, where they aim to turn the tide in their qualifying journey.
