Former Ghana international, Sam Johnson has advised the Black Stars players to give their all ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The four time African champions will turn attention to the qualifiers of the global football showpiece after missing a ticket to the next Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco later this year.
With the qualifiers resuming in March, Sam Johnson has backed head coach of the national team, Otto Addo to qualify the Black Stars for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
“I have confidence in Otto Addo. He can qualify us for the World Cup but football is not only about the coach,” he told Sporty FM as quoted by panafricafootball.com.
The former Fenerbahce defender stressed the importance of player responsibility on the field of play. “I want something for myself, that’s why I’m playing football. If the coach is not good, what am I doing for myself on the field?
“Do something. We play for coaches who don’t know anything because maybe the coach is not good but he is a human,” he added.
Ghana recorded back-to-back wins against Mali and Central African Republic after a jerky start to the qualifiers in Otto Addo’s second coming. In the matchday five and six games, the Black Stars will take on Chad and Madagascar in March.
