Antoine Semenyo has expressed his relief after ending his two-year goal drought for Ghana, netting the opener in the Black Stars’ emphatic 5-0 win over Chad in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Bournemouth forward had not scored for Ghana since finding the net against Angola in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. Determined to break that streak, he struck early at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, setting the tone for a dominant performance.
“I feel like every player has a period when they don’t score,” Semenyo said after the game. “Every game is an opportunity to try and get a goal; if I don’t, I focus on the next game. During this international break, I felt like I needed to get a goal. I wouldn’t say there was any pressure.”
Semenyo’s early goal provided Ghana with the perfect platform, as the Black Stars wasted no time asserting their dominance. Inaki Williams, Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Salisu, and Ernest Nuamah also got on the scoresheet, securing an important victory that propelled Ghana to the top of Group I.
