Gambia secured a resounding 5-1 victory over Seychelles at the Berkane Municipal Stadium in Morocco on Saturday evening, marking their first win in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
Goals from Mohamed Badamosi (two), Musa Barrow, Yankuba Minteh, and Adama Sidibeh ensured the Scorpions claimed the vital three points in Group F. Despite the triumph, they remained in fifth place, trailing leaders Cote d’Ivoire by six points.
Seychelles, meanwhile, continued to struggle, with zero points from three matches, although Ryan Henriette managed to score their first goal of the campaign.
Gambia took control early on, seizing the lead just 10 minutes after kick-off through Badamosi, assisted by Omar Gaye. However, Seychelles quickly retaliated, leveling the score at 1-1 with a strike from Henriette.
Despite Seychelles’ efforts to frustrate their hosts, the teams were level at halftime.
The Scorpions improved significantly in the second half, reclaiming the lead with a Barrow penalty in the 52nd minute. They extended their advantage further with Minteh’s goal in the 55th minute.
Around the midway point of the second half, Gambia extended their lead to 4-1 through Badamosi, effectively securing the victory. Substitute Sidibeh added a fifth goal in the 78th minute as the Scorpions displayed their dominance.
Both teams will resume play on Tuesday, with Seychelles hosting Burundi in Berkane, while Gambia travels to Franceville to face Gabon.
