Beitar Jerusalem striker Richmond Boakye-Yiadom has expressed excitement after being named in Ghana’s squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa.
The former Red Stars Belgrade star is making a return to the Black Stars team for the first time in almost three years under new head coach Milovan Rajevac.
The striker was on target twice for the Black Stars when they walloped lower-tier side Golden Kicks FC on Monday in a friendly game ahead of the team’s trip to South Africa on Tuesday for the penultimate qualifier match against Ethiopia at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
“It’s a blessing to be back. I always cherish the opportunity to be part of the national team so I’m excited to join the squad and ready to give my best. The feeling of unity is great. Everything in camp is peaceful,” Yiadom said after the Black Stars first training on Monday.
Ghana will play Ethiopia on Thursday 11th November before they return home to host the Bafana Bafana of South Africa at the Cape Coast Stadium three days later.
Meanwhile, Israel-based Montari Kamaheni has been handed a late call-up by coach Milovan Rajevac to replace injured Gideon Mensah.
