Barcelona face a ‘difficult, but not impossible’ task if they want to sign Erling Haaland this summer, according to Enric Masip, one of the club’s advisors.
Haaland is widely expected to leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer after two-and-a-half spectacular seasons in Germany. During his time at BVB the 21-year-old has average just under a goal per game, and also contributed 21 assists.
There are a host of clubs in the hunt for his signature. Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are believed to be the frontrunners, but Real Madrid are interested too.
Real’s bitter rivals Barcelona has also been credited with an interest, though vice-president Rafa Yuste admitted any deal would be ‘very, very difficult’ to complete.
However, that does not mean that the Blaugrana should be ruled out of the running entirely, as Masip was keen to point out.
“The signing of Haaland is difficult, but not impossible. Many circumstances have to be met to be able to sign him,” he told the Spanish media recently.
“The club, despite the economic situation, is looking for formulas to continue signing. I refer to what Laporta said: ‘the club is going to sign, but for someone to come, there must be opportunities. Barça must sign the best. Haaland is a great player.'”
Clubs who wish to take advantage of Haaland’s €75m release clause will need to do so before 30 April, when it expires.
