Ligue 1 side FC Nantes have managed to seal the signature of Galatasaray forward Mohamed Mostafa on a season-long loan for €250,000, with the French club having the option to make the deal permanent for €5 million
The player travelled to France on Tuesday and undergone his medicals on Wednesday, before officially signing his contracts with his new club.
Nantes had finished last season in ninth place in Ligue 1 and lifted the Coupe de France after beating Nice in the final, which secured them a spot in the UEFA Europa League.
Mostafa Mohamed has a chance to lift a title on his debut season as Nantes will come up against Paris saint-Germain in the Super Cup (Trophée des Champions) on July 31, which will take place in Tel Aviv.
Nantes have been looking for a new target man after losing Randal Kolo Muani to Frankfurt on a free transfer, Jean-Kévin Augustin to FC Basel, and Kalifa Coulibaly, who they released.
They have however signed the talented Evann Guessand from OGC Nice on a season-long loan and are linked with a move for Ui-jo Hwang from Bordeaux.
Mostafa will now train under French manager Antoine Kombouaré and will play alongside the likes of Ludovic Blas, Moses Simon, Moussa Sissoko, Pedro Chirivella, and goalkeeper Alban Lafont.
He becomes the club’s third summer signing after deals for Moussa Sissoko from Watford and Evann Guessand from OGC Nice.
Mohamed will also become the first-ever Egyptian to represent FC Nantes and the fifth to play in the Ligue 1 after Ahmed Hossam Mido, Hosny Abd Rabo, Ahmed Abou Mosalem, and Mzahar Abdelrahman.
It’s worth noting that FC Nantes have won the Ligue 1 on eight occasions before, most recently in 2001, and were crowned Coupe de France champions four times. The club has also won three Trophée des Champions, and the Coupe de la Ligue in 1965.
