Abdul Gazale, the acting coach for Asante Kotoko, attributed his team’s 1-1 draw with Legon Cities on Thursday in their Ghana Premier League match to the poor nature of the El Wak Stadium.
Gazale has taken temporary charge of the defending champions following the dismissal of Seydou Zerbo. In Gazale’s debut game as coach, his team took the lead against Legon Cities in the 20th minute through a penalty converted by skipper Richard Boadu.
However, the Porcupine Warriors failed to score again and even relinquished the lead when the Royals equalized through Alex Aso on the 70th-minute mark. According to Gazale, his team could have secured victory if not for the poor condition of the pitch.
“We came here with our mindset of getting the three points but unfortunately, we conceded in the second half. We were thinking of getting the maximum points but the nature of the pitch didn’t help at all.
“We will go back to the drawing board, work on a few things and start to think about what to do in the next match,” said Abdulai after the game.
The result pushed Legon Cities up to the 14th position on the table, rising above King Faisal and Great Olympics on goal difference.
Meanwhile, Kotoko remains outside the top four, ranking sixth on the table with an outstanding match against King Faisal.
