Former Asante Kotoko and Ashanti Gold SC goal poacher Alex Asamoah has heavily criticized the Lebanese league as one which lucks a lot in terms of professionalism,stressing it comes nowhere near the Ghanaian league.
Despite the financial constraints in the Ghana Premier League, Asamoah believes professionalism wise the Lebanese is behind the Ghana top flight league.
He says it was out of ignorance that led ”some of us” plying trade in Lebanon.
Asamoah 32, aside playing for Asante Kotoko and Ashgold has also featured for other top clubs in the Ghana Premier Peague including current league winners Aduana Stars and Berekum Arsena currently in the Division One League.
He has also had stints with both ES Setif in Algeria and Rail club du Kadiogo in Burkina Faso.
Speaking in an interview with Kumasi based Angel FM Alex said “Some of us never knew of certain predicaments instilled in the Lebanese league.
“Such as some of their club owners unwillingness in paying their players most especially the foreign ones their salaries at some point in time.”
“The Lebanese league l must confess comes nowhere near the Ghanaian league in terms of professionalism,” Alex noted.
“Even though I’ve featured in the Lebanese league before, l would never advise a colleague Ghanaian player to travel there to ply his trade.”
“For those playing there I’ll say it has already happened but is quiet a pity,” he added.
Asamoah leaving his Lebanese outfit to travel back home, he disclosed was as a result of some financial etches as his club became adamant in paying him his salaries at a point in time.
Becoming not the only Ghanaian player to be slapped with such an unpleasant case in the hands of Arab clubs but Black Stars duo Awal Mohammed and Nicholas Opoku have also faced similar issue.
Alex Asamoah, once a top goal scorer in the Ghana premier league following his numerous experience in soccer, currently plays for newly promoted Ghana Premier League Karela FC.
