Laryea Kingston, former midfielder for the Ghana national team, has offered advice to Ghana’s top two clubs, Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, emphasizing the need to hire competent technical staff and knowledgeable management who understand the game.
Laryea believes that the poor performance of both teams can be attributed to a lack of proper management and strategic planning. While these clubs were once known for attracting top-quality players from across Africa, their current situation is quite different.
Both Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko have struggled in the ongoing season and are facing challenges in maintaining their positions in the top four of the BetPawa Premier League.
During an interview, the former Hearts of Oak player expressed his thoughts, stating that the success of these two teams hinges on implementing the right strategies.
“Hearts and Asante Kotoko are the two biggest teams in the country. They should focus on doing things the right way, such as hiring competent technical staff and knowledgeable management who understand the game. They should also have a clear game plan to build a team that can dominate Ghana and eventually Africa within the next two to three years. It’s crucial to have a plan. I don’t think either team has a plan at the moment. You can’t just wake up and say you’re going to win the league without a proper plan and without considering long-term development,” Laryea told Original FM.
He continued, “I can confidently say that both teams have failed to build anything substantial in the past five years. Every season, players come and go with the hope of achieving something, but it hasn’t materialized. They need to establish a four- or five-year plan to create a solid foundation both domestically and in Africa.”
Laryea Kingston’s advice highlights the importance of strategic thinking and long-term planning for the sustained success of both Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.
