Ghana’s Black Queens delivered a resounding 7-0 victory over Rwanda in the first leg of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier (WAFCON) at the Kigali Pele Stadium on Wednesday.
The Ghanaian team displayed an overwhelming performance throughout the match, dominating their opponents from start to finish.
Under the guidance of Coach Nora Huptle, the Black Queens have experienced a resurgence in their form.
The scoring commenced in the opening minutes, with Doris Boaduwaa finding the net for the Queens.
Evelyn Badu extended the lead for the Ghanaian side with a goal in the ninth minute, capitalizing on a pass from Grace Acheampong.
In the 30th minute, Priscilla Adubea added to the tally with a header, marking the third goal for the Black Queens.
After halftime, Alice Kusi joined the scoring spree, netting the fourth goal of the game.
Evelyn Badu continued her brilliant performance with another goal in the 64th minute, securing her second of the match.
Although Ghana was awarded a penalty in the 65th minute, Jennifer Cudjoe missed the ensuing kick.
Achiaa Anastaesia extended the lead, making it six for the Queens with a long-range strike in the 75th minute, following a goalkeeper error.
Anastaesia completed her brace a few minutes later, sealing the Black Queens’ comprehensive 7-0 victory over their opponents.
Ghana will host Rwanda in the second leg at the Accra Sports Stadium in one week’s time.
