Former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, expresses confidence that the Ghanaian national team will perform admirably at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
However, he voices concerns over the ongoing uncertainty regarding the team’s camping plans, just 33 days before the tournament commences.
Appiah emphasizes that the lack of clarity on the camping venue could lead to distractions for the team, urging the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to promptly address these concerns to ensure a smooth and focused preparation.
“[Not knowing where to pitch camp at this point] brings a lot of distraction because when you are going to a tournament, you want everything to be done ahead of time,” he highlights.
While hoping that the GFA resolves the camping issue swiftly, Appiah remains optimistic that the Black Stars will represent Ghana effectively in Ivory Coast during the AFCON, scheduled from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
“Here we are, we still don’t know the venue where the team will go and camp.
“We hope that whatever is happening, they [GFA] know better. They should finalise everything so the boys will go to camp in peace. They will represent Ghana well in Cote d’Ivoire and we will see what they will come out with.”
