Francis Akwafo Boateng, a former Asante Kotoko winger, believes that Salifu Ibrahim’s injury significantly impacted Hearts of Oak during the Super Clash last Sunday, where the two titans clashed at the Baba Yara Stadium in week 14 of the Ghana Premier League.
In a highly competitive encounter, Kotoko secured a 3-2 victory against Hearts of Oak, playing away in the much-anticipated fixture. Salifu Ibrahim had an impressive start to the game, contributing to his team’s opening goal. However, he was forced to leave the field after sustaining an injury in the second half.
Speaking to Kessben FM, the former Kotoko winger acknowledged that Salifu Ibrahim’s injury played a decisive role in the Phobians’ outcome.
“I didn’t expect such a beautiful game from both teams; I’m happy with the performance of both teams. I’m happy Kotoko won but was also impressed with how Hearts of Oak played. I don’t regret watching the game because both teams sold good football,” said Akwafo.
He emphasized the impact of Salifu Ibrahim’s injury on Hearts of Oak, stating, “Salifu Ibrahim’s injury affected Hearts of Oak. You are not truthful if you don’t accept his injury cost the Phobians.”
Hearts of Oak initially took the lead through Linda Mtange, but Isaac Oppong equalized before halftime. Uganda forward Steven Mukwala’s brace in the second half sealed the victory for Kotoko, with Martin Karikari scoring a late goal for the Phobians.
