Forson Amankwah, the 20-year-old Ghanaian attacking midfielder, recently shared insights into his evolving journey with Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg.
His impact on the team has been substantial, surpassing his previous season’s performance and solidifying his position as a key player.
As the current season progressed, Amankwah’s contributions became increasingly evident. Impressively, he secured a spot in the starting lineup for 65% of the league games, demonstrating his importance on the pitch. This marked improvement is particularly notable when compared to his limited playing time in the previous season.
In terms of minutes played, Amankwah has been a consistent presence, participating in 57% of the available time on the field. Beyond merely being present, he has made significant contributions to Salzburg’s goal tally, accounting for an impressive 12% of the team’s goals. This multifaceted impact showcases his growing influence in the squad.
In a candid conversation with Flashscore Ghana, the West Africa Academy product expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing season, acknowledging his increased playing time and the opportunities to make a tangible impact. Amankwah reflected, “I might say this season I’ve been so good because last season I wasn’t playing so much. But I think this season is really good because I’ve been playing so many games. I think I am becoming more important to the team because last season I wasn’t playing so much and then this season I play so much and I am having the opportunity to impact games.”
Despite his remarkable performances at the club level, Amankwah faced a bittersweet moment in his international career. While earning a place in Ghana’s provisional squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, he ultimately missed out on the final list for the tournament held in Ivory Coast. This setback, however, serves as motivation for Amankwah to continue excelling at the club level and strive for further recognition on the international stage.
