Former Ghana international Samuel Inkoom is calling for unwavering support for the Black Stars as they gear up for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Inkoom, a member of the Black Stars squad that reached the finals of the 2010 AFCON, stressed the importance of unity among Ghanaians, urging them to rally behind the team for success in the upcoming tournament.
“You know I want us to do as Ghanaians? I want us to be like a team, lets come together and support the team. if we support the team, the current team can replicate what we did for the country”
Highlighting the impact of positivity, he encouraged Ghanaians to focus on supporting the team rather than dwelling on negativity. Drawing a parallel with past successes, especially the 2009 U20 squad, Inkoom expressed confidence that the current team could achieve something special.
“If we dwell more on negativity, it means we are the one bringing the team down. If we have confidence in the team, pray for the team as we normally do as Ghanaians and can do what we did for the 2009 U20 squad, I believe this team will have something special for us” he said.
The Black Stars have arrived in Ivory Coast for the tournament, where they will face Cape Verde in their opening match on Sunday, January 14, 2024. Subsequent group-stage matches will see them play against Egypt and Mozambique on January 18 and 22, respectively, in Group B.
Ghana boasts a rich history in the AFCON, having won the title four times, with the most recent victory in 1982.
Despite facing setbacks in three finals since then, including losses to Ivory Coast in 1992 and Egypt in 2010, Inkoom believes the current team has the potential for success.
