In his State of the Nation address, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed unwavering belief in the resurgence of the Black Stars, Ghana’s senior national football team, despite their recent lackluster performances.
With disappointing exits from both the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the FIFA World Cup in recent years, where the team failed to advance past the group stages, President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the challenges faced by the Black Stars.
Reflecting on their struggles in the last two AFCON campaigns in Cameroon and Ivory Coast, as well as their early exit from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the President remained optimistic about the team’s potential for redemption.
“I have no doubt that the Black Stars will rise up and once again bring pride to our nation,” affirmed President Akufo-Addo.
Looking ahead, the Black Stars are set to resume their journey in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with a crucial doubleheader against Mali in June. As they prepare to return to action, President Akufo-Addo’s vote of confidence serves as a rallying call for the team to reclaim their glory days on the international stage.
