In a Ghana Premier League showdown, Nations FC delivered a stunning blow to the faltering Asante Kotoko, securing a 1-0 victory and extending Kotoko’s losing streak to four consecutive defeats.
The match, part of match week 23, showcased Nations FC’s coach Kassim Mingle’s strategic prowess, which played a pivotal role in their triumph at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Mingle, in a post-match interview, disclosed his methodical approach, revealing that he dedicated the first half to analyzing Kotoko’s tactics. During halftime, he strategically adjusted his team’s game plan based on his observations and relayed instructions to his players from the sidelines.
This calculated approach bore fruit in the second half, as Nations FC dominated proceedings and capitalized on their newfound tactical edge.
The winning goal came from forward Asamoah Boateng Afriyie, who showcased remarkable skill and teamwork by heading home a well-delivered cross, solidifying his status as the league’s top scorer.
“I used the first half in studying Kotoko so I asked my players to listen to instructions from the bench, where to move and where to reposition themselves. After recess, we took over and won the game,” he said.
He further commended his team’s tactical discipline and adherence to instructions, acknowledging that while they deviated slightly from their usual style of play, the outcome justified their approach.
”My players were tactically disciplined, they played to instructions. Truth be told, we didn’t play the normal game we’ve been playing but it wasn’t bad so far we got the three points, I’m okay,” he added.
With momentum on their side, Nations FC now look ahead to their next league encounter against Accra Great Olympics, aiming to maintain their winning momentum and continue their ascent in the league standings.
