1. The bottom three all won, surprisingly
The battle for survival got extremely interesting with all the bottom-placed teams winning in Week 25. Heart of Lions beat the in-form Accra Lions 2-0, Bofoakwa triumphed against their rivals Aduana 1-0 while the lowly RTU surprisingly beat the 2nd-placed Nations FC 1-0.
Week 25 in the midweek was so good for the relegation-threatened clubs but each will see itself as unlucky because all their rivals won. The biggest winner was Bofoakwa Tano who moved outside the relegation zone with the narrow win over Aduana.
2. Emmanuel Boakye Owusu’s goal for Samartex might be their most important goal
It was clear Samartex was never going to find things easy in Dawu against the improved Legon Cities. The Timber Giants went behind 1-0 through Baba Musah’s own goal before the half time.
Amadu Nurudeen’s charges nearly lost at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu but Emmanuel Owusu Boakye scored in the 92nd minute to secure a precious point which helped the Timber Gianats open a 3-point lead over Nations FC. This goal will probably at the end of the season be Samartex’s most important one of the season.
3. Asante Kotoko needs an inspiration
Who is going to inspire the Porcupine Warriors? Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s woes continued on Thursday night at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium against Nsoatreman.
Abdul Rahaman’s late goal added more trouble to the already troubled Asante Kotoko. It was the Porcupine Warriors’ 5th defeat in their last six league games. Things are getting out of hand and Asante Kotoko needs someone to inspire them to get back to winning ways.
4. Hearts of Oak loses 3rd game in succession
Many thought Aboubakar Ouattara was Hearts of Oak’s saviour as he got off to a brilliant start to his reign. In just two weeks, things have suddenly changed and the Ivorian tactician has lost 3 consecutive league games.
This is quite surprising looking at the fact that neither Martin Koopman nor Abdul Bashiru lost 3 consecutive games. Things are now difficult for the Phobians as they sit 11th on the table. Against Karela in Week 26, it is a must-win for Accra Hearts of Oak.
5. Dreams FC must pay attention to the GPL
Karim Zito’s Still Believe have performed beyond everyone’s expectations in the CAF Confederation Cup but they have not been that incredible in the league. Even though Dreams have two games in hand, the 3-2 defeat they suffered in Berekum in the midweek against Samuel Boadu’s Berekum Chelsea has sent them to the relegation zone.
After 23 games, Dreams FC have won 28 points. The Still Believe are just three points above Hearts of Lions and RTU. The Still Believe must learn how to balance the two competitions.
