Leicester City have reached an agreement to sign Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew from Crystal Palace for £8 million, doubling their initial offer of £4 million.
Crystal Palace has accepted the improved bid, clearing the way for Ayew’s departure after a five-year stint with the club. The 32-year-old striker, who will turn 33 next month, has made over 200 appearances for Palace, scoring 23 goals.
Despite his contributions, Ayew’s role at Palace has diminished under new manager Oliver Glasner, with his recent appearance being limited to a second-half substitute in their Premier League loss to Brentford.
Leicester City manager Steve Cooper, who has a history of working with Ayew’s older brother André at Nottingham Forest and Swansea City, is keen on bolstering his squad, particularly in the forward department. Cooper has been vocal about the need to strengthen Leicester’s attacking options.
“We know where we want to strengthen, we know where we want to improve. If we can improve a starter in the team, we’ll do that, and we know we need to strengthen the competition in some places as well,” Cooper said earlier this month.
Ayew’s experience in the Premier League is expected to be a significant asset for Leicester, particularly in complementing their star striker, Jamie Vardy.
