Paintsil capitalized on a perfectly timed pass from midfield, calmly slotting the ball past New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Carlos Coronel to give LA Galaxy the lead in the ninth minute. The forward dedicated his goal to injured teammate Riqui Puig, who has been instrumental for the team throughout the season.
Just four minutes later, Dejan Joveljić doubled the Galaxy’s advantage with a clinical finish, putting the team firmly in control. However, Sean Nealis pulled one back for the Red Bulls in the 27th minute, setting up an intense contest for the remainder of the match.
Despite a spirited fightback from New York, LA Galaxy held on to their 2-1 lead until the final whistle, ensuring another historic chapter for the club.
