Former Asante Kotoko midfielder, Jordan Opoku, has called on the club’s current head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, to focus on assembling a strong squad capable of securing victories across all competitions.
The Porcupine Warriors have shown signs of revival in the Ghana Premier League, winning two consecutive games against Aduana Stars and archrivals Hearts of Oak in weeks 12 and 13. These wins marked Kotoko’s first back-to-back victories in eight league games.
Opoku, who had three separate stints with Kotoko between 2006 and 2019, shared his insights on the team’s performance in a recent media interview:
“I watched Kotoko’s match against Heart of Lions in Obuasi, and I felt that at times, the players’ urgency was lacking. The way they react when losing possession is concerning. The effort to recover the ball after losing it needs to be much more effective,” Opoku noted.
He also emphasized the importance of building a solid team for long-term success. “Ogum should focus on strengthening the squad because the supporters will expect the team to win. But if you’re not patient, frustration can lead to comments that might harm the club,” Opoku added.
Jordan Opoku’s successful tenure at Kotoko spanned three periods: from 2006 to 2011, in 2013-2015, and his final stint in 2018-2019. Currently, Kotoko sits 6th on the Ghana Premier League table with 21 points, two points ahead of rivals Hearts of Oak.
