Karela United head coach, Nurudeen Amadu, has expressed firm belief that his team will avoid relegation at the end of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, despite their struggles so far.
Currently in 15th place with 25 points from 25 matches, Karela has endured a tough campaign, registering 6 wins, 7 draws, and 12 losses. However, Amadu, who took over the club ahead of the second round of the season, is confident that his experience and determination will guide the Tamale-based side to safety.
“There’s no way I’ll lead this team to relegation,” Amadu told Graphic Sports. “I’ve done it before with King Faisal and I’m ready to do it again with Karela United.”
While acknowledging that Karela is not one of the strongest teams in the league, particularly due to their reliance on young, inexperienced players, Amadu remains resolute in his mission. He revealed that the club’s management is already planning to strengthen the squad with more experienced players for the upcoming season.
“The team is not very strong compared to others in the Premier League, but I am here and determined to help Karela escape relegation — which was why I was brought in,” he stressed.
Amadu remains optimistic about the team’s survival chances, especially after the relegation of Nsoatreman FC. With only two spots remaining to be filled in the relegation zone, he believes Karela will not be one of the teams to drop.
“It is possible we can escape relegation because now that Nsoatreman is gone, there are only two teams to join them and we will not be among the two teams,” he explained.
Karela United’s fight for survival will continue as they host Aduana FC in the Matchday 27 fixture at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Sunday, where they will look to keep their hopes of remaining in the top flight alive.
