AZ Alkmaar is working to secure the long-term future of promising Dutch-Ghanaian goalkeeper Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro, despite the 20-year-old already being under contract until 2028.
The club, impressed by his rapid development and recent performances, is reportedly preparing an improved deal that will include better financial terms. The move reflects Owusu-Oduro’s rising status within the team and growing market value, currently estimated at €6 million by Transfermarkt.
Owusu-Oduro has firmly established himself as AZ’s first-choice goalkeeper under coach Maarten Martens. His senior debut came in a UEFA Europa Conference League match against Legia Warsaw on December 14, 2023. He also started in the KNVB Cup final on April 21, 2025, where AZ were narrowly beaten by Go Ahead Eagles on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
In the 2024/25 Eredivisie season, he made 28 league appearances and kept nine clean sheets, underlining his consistency and potential as one of the brightest young goalkeepers in Dutch football.
AZ’s push to extend his deal further highlights the club’s belief in Owusu-Oduro as a cornerstone for their future.
