Former Ghanaian international Augustine Arhinful has described Coach Jimmy Corbblah’s current Ghana U-20 team as the worst side he has even seen.
Ghana, despite winning the African Youth Championship three times and also becoming African’s first country to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2009 in, failed to make it to the semis of the 2019 CAF U-20 AFCON.
The Black Satellites recorded only one victory in their three Group stage matches and shamefully exited the competition.
After beating whipping boys Burkina Faso 2-0 in their opening game, they subsequently lost 2-0 to Senegal and 1-0 to Mali and the former Black Stars player has blasted Jimmy Corbblah and his boys for their poor display at the AFCON.
”This Under 20 team [2019 Black Satellites] is the worst I have seen ever.- Former Black Stars player, Augustine Arhinful told Accra-based told Class FM.
”I disagree with assertion that lack of league football in Ghana led to Black Satellites failure at the 2019 AFCON in Niger.” he stressed.
The former Wa All Stars gaffer, despite having the free hand to select the players he wanted and sounding overly optimistic before their departure to Niger, quickly after being kicked out of the tourney said the players he selected for the tournament were not the right players.
The under-fire manager after exiting the 2019 U-20 AFCON claims a dominant local-based side would have done better than the players he selected for the tournament.
But the absence of domestic football meant he had no option but to rely on foreign-based players.
“It affected us,” Jimmy said after the defeat to Mali.
“We should have used most of the local boys because if you look at the competition most of the teams are using most of their local boys,” he added.
