AshantiGold SC beat regional rivals Asante Kotoko 4-3 on penalties after
a pulsating 0-0 of entertaining 90 minutes football to lift the BK Edusei memorial cup on Sunday the Baba Yara Stadium.
AshantiGold had to make an early substitution after defender Richard Osei Agyemang suffered a knock in the first minute and was replaced by Musa Mohammed.
The match then became balance with exchanges in the middle between James Akaminko, and Justice Blay.
Asante Kotoko could have been up in the 16th minute when Kelvin Andoh was sent through with a one on one situation with Yussif Mubarik but later came up the strongest to save the miners from conceding an early goal.
The Obuasi-based outfit on the other hand, had fine opportunity to punish Kotoko on the 28th minute after Anabila gave Eric Donkor a good pass but the later failed to put the ball at the back of the net.
It was a thrilling challenge between arguably the two best midfielders in the domestic league, Justice Blay and JameS Akaminko as the two proved their top-class form in midfield.
Asante Kotoko’s Richard Arthur kicked off the second Half, with his team mates eager to get the opener, but a much resolute Frank Boateng stood in between them, and goal.
Both sides continued to hold up play to prevent the opponent from causing any havoc.
Both sides created some decent chances in the last 10 minutes of the game, but couldn’t utilized their chances as referee Ernest Baafi brought proceedings to an end to usher the teams into penalty shoot out with AshantiGold winning by 4-3.
