The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has sent a blank budget to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the Black Stars’ participation in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, the association’s spokesman has told Kumasi-based Metro FM on Tuesday.
According to the former BBC broadcaster the GFA still wants to erase the corruption perception that some Ghanaians including the Ministry officials have against the football body.
“Yes I can confirm to you that the GFA has presented a blank budget to the Ministry of Youth and Sport for the 2017 AFCON. We still believe this is the best way to tell the public that we are a clean organization. So the Ministry will assign figures to the various items we have given in the budget.” Sani Daara told Metro FM on the Matured and Academic Sports show on Tuesday.
This is not the first time the GFA has acted this way.
The country’s governing body of football sent a similar blank budget to the Ministry when Ghana played Uganda in the first match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification tournament.
Ghana is placed in the same group as Egypt, Uganda and Mali.
The Black Stars open their tournament account against Uganda on 17th January in Port-Gentil, then faces Mali on 21st January in their second game at the same venue before meeting Egypt in the final group encounter – in a match that could potentially determine who tops the group on 25th January.
