Montreal Impact have announced Ghana striker Dominic Oduro has signed a two-year contract extension with the MLS side a statement on the club’s official website said.
Oduro, 31, has re-signed for the side despite public overtures from Sporting Kansas City.
“We are happy to have come to an agreement with Dominic on a new two-year contract,” said Impact technical director Adam Braz. “Dominic has been an important part of our success in the last two years and has fit in nicely with the club and the city. His pace and ability to get in behind defenders has led to his important offensive contribution to the team. His experience and team first mentality will continue to be important within our group.”
“I am very happy to come back with the Impact, where I have enjoyed a lot of success with the club as well as individually and found more consistency and connection with my teammates,” said Oduro.
He added “I also have a strong connection with the fans which made my decision even easier to return.”
In 60 regular season games played with the Impact in MLS, the 31 year-old midfielder scored 14 goals and added six assists in over 3,699 minutes played.
In 2016, he concluded the season tied for eighth in MLS with three game-winning assists and tied for the Impact lead with six assists. He was also named once to the MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week.Acquired by the Impact from Toronto FC in January 2015, he started all six games in the CONCACAF Champions League Championship Stage and helped the team reach the final against Mexican giant Club América, recording four assists while playing 511 minutes.
Oduro has also registered two goals and three assists in five MLS Cup Playoff games and one goal in six Amway Canadian Championship games with the Impact.
Over his career, the Ghanaian has scored 62 goals and registered 32 assists in 311 regular season games and 18,227 minutes, including 196 starts, while also playing 13 MLS Cup Playoff games.
