Asante Kotoko head coach Coach Maxwell Konadu says he is unsure if midfielder Richard Senanu will play for Asante Kotoko this season after he suffered a new setback in his rehabilitation.
Senanu, who has been dogged by injury trouble during his time in Kumasi, has not played for the club since February 2019 after damaging his cruciate knee ligaments in Asante Kotoko’s 2-1 win against Zesco United in Kumasi in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The 26-year-old was expected to make his long-awaited return in the forthcoming season as the club prepare for the Ghana premier league as well as the CAF champions league which will begin in November but has suffered a new setback in his rehabilitation.
Konadu confirmed to Myfabulousonline.com that the promising midfielder is nowhere close to making a return to the first team. Senanu, who has had extensive rehab in Kumasi, was hoping to make a return for the Porcupines this season and started pre-season with the team last week.
However, it is confirmed that the midfielder will be out for the remainder of the season since his recovery is not going according to plan. Maxwell Konadu said, “His recovery is going very slowly. Will he play again this season? I don’t know. He is still on a long-term recovery programme.”
Richard Senanu hoped to return shortly, but Asante Kotoko do not expect him to play a part this season and are unwilling to put a timescale on his return. Such a shame for a player who looked the next Michael Essien at one point in time but has never had a chance to have a decent run in the team to really develop due to the injury.
