Ghana’s Bechem United have been kicked out of the 2017 Caf Confederation after suffering a 1-4 preliminary round second leg defeat to MC Alger of Algeria Saturday night.
The FA Cup winners went into the encounter with a 2-1 advantage from the first leg in Accra last week.
Bechem were until the final seven drawing 3-3 on aggregate but suddenly capitulated by conceding to rightly awarded late penalties.
Good old Mohamed Seguer who scored MC Alger’s only goal in the Accra game handed his side the lead as early as the 2nd minute.
Abderrahmane Hachoud then made it 2-0 with a free-kick strike from about 40 metres out.
On the hour mark, Amed Toure pulled one back to bring the score level – 3-3 on aggregate.
The Hunters could however not hold on to at least force the game into penalty shootout as substitute Abdul Bashiru got himself into the wrong books of the referee with an infringement in the penalty area as well as a yellow card for his troubles.
MC Alger’s dead ball expect Abderrahmane Hachoud stepped up and converted from the spot on 84 minutes – 3-1.
With two minutes from the final whistle defender Akwasi Acheampong saw red for another penalty offence which was this time expertly put away by MC Alger’s youngest player Zakaria Mansouri.
MC Alger thus advance past Bechem United with a 5-3 aggregate over to legs and will now face Renaissance du Congo who eliminated Akanda of Gabon 1-0 on aggregate.
