Striker Bernard Arthur scored twice to hand Liberty Professionals a 3-2 win over Medeama SC on a wet pitch in Dansoman on Match week four of the 2016/2017 Ghana Premier League.
The victory is Liberty’s seconds of the season, both of which have come at their favourite Carle Reindorf Park.
There was a heavy downpour in Dansoman in the build up to the game which nearly flooded the pitch but that did not prevent Referee Isaac Quaye from allowing the game to start at its originally slated time.
Players from both teams endured a torrid afternoon trying to control the ball on the pitch due to its bad nature but it was the home side who got the advantage after just 5 minutes.
Forward Bernard Arthur capitalized on Medeama keeper Ofori Antwi’s failure to gather a lose ball to slot home the first goal from close range.
Despite Liberty Professionals taking an early lead, Medeama controlled most part of the game afterwards and their persistent pressure paid off in the 31st minute.
Winger Justice Blay rose highest to head home the equalizer for the Tarkwa based side following a corner kick.
The scoreline remained the same as the referee whistled to signal the end of the first half.
The second half however saw both sides posses the ball batter, mostly due to the relative improvement in the nature of the pitch.
But despite the improvement, neither side was able to make it count until the 71st minute when striker Bernard Arthur scored his second of the day with a thundering close range strike following missed clearance from the Medeama defense.
The lead only lasted for 5 minutes before the travelling team restored parity.
Striker Benjamin Bature swing in a beautiful cross from a corner kick which found Francis Addo at the near post and the midfielder wasted no time in glancing it past Eric Andoh in post for Liberty.
Just three minutes later, the home side restored their lead at the other end through deputy Skipper Samuel Sarfo also from a corner kick.
3-2 the scoreline stayed despite am intense last minutes pressure from Medeama.
The home stayed held on to record their second win of the campaign.
