The Ghana Football Association in the coming days will appoint a Dutch trainer to become the second deputy coach to Black Stars head coach Charles Akonnor.
Reliable information reaching SportsworldGhana.com denotes the yet to be appointed coach will be stationed in Europe for his duties. The Dutch coach will solely be responsible for monitoring and scouting Ghanaian players in Europe and Asia.
Reports have been widespread in the Ghanaian media about tension between CK Akonnor and his assistant David Duncan with technical director Bernhard Lippert in support of the idea of kicking out the ex-Hasaacas coach from the coaching set-up.
The FA, however, believes it would be unwise to sack David Duncan currently since he has a contract with the country’s football governing body nd have therefore, decided to hire an expatriate to become Akonnor’s first deputy coach.
The appointment of the new coach will only buttress the rumor of the stand on David Duncan. The Ghana FA were in touch with ex-Middlesbrough captain, George Boateng now U23 head coach of Aston Villa to fill the gap in the Black Stars technical team but the deal could not materialise.
As reported to your authoritative website, the coach when appointed will not be on salary but will only be paid per diem when the national team is on duty, in addition he will enjoy any bonus and incentives which members of the technical team are entitled to.
Coach Maxwell Konadu and Ibrahim Tanko were the two assistant coaches under Kwasi Appiah until the Football Association dissolved the technical team and appointed CK Akonnor and David Duncan as head coach and assistant respectively.
The appointment is sure to raise a lot of red flags if the appointment is necessary or whether we could have appointed a Ghanaian to execute this job.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars will play two international friendlies against Morocco and Ivory next month as Akonnor prepares his tem for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September this year.
