Ghanaian Winger, Christian Atsu has opened up on his difficult childhood life whiles growing up amidst painful poverty.
The Ada born player who did not start school until he was about 8 years moved to Accra to join his elder brother to start education but had to endure a rather unpleasant childhood life just to make a living on the streets of Madina.
In an interview with Crime Check Foundation, the ex-Everton winger remembered with nostalgia how he had to basically fend for himself a tender age when thing got out of hands from his guardians “ I have sold cooper before, I use to catch bush meat and sell when I go out in the morning, I sell firewood after gathering wood and give to the Kenkey sellers to make money. When I go out in the morning, I could always hustle my way through out and return in the evening one meal a day was just enough for me” Christian stated.
Christian Atsu also disclosed how he had to jog from Madina to Achimota just to play football due to lack of money for transportation “I joined an under 12 team in Achimota called Peace Fc But at times even money for transportation to the place was a problem so I use to Jog from Madina to Achimota and back”
The Black Stars player finally broke the chains of poverty when a move to Portugal materialized in the year 2010. The skillful player has since gone on to play for Malaga, Vitesse Arhin, Bournemouth, Rio Ave and Newcastle.
Christian Atsu signed for Chelsea under Jose Mourinho but never enjoyed a single minute of playing time.
