Kamaldeen Sulemana
Nordsjaelland winger Kamaldeen Sulemana may have become the most talked-about Ghana player in the transfer market but there are certainly more talent to watch out for from the West African country.
With the 20-year-old reportedly nearing a transfer to Ajax amid competing interest from Manchester United, Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen, and Rennes, Goal looks at the other exciting young men sending optimism among the Ghanaians, including Black Stars skipper Andre Ayew.
Mohammed Kudus – Ajax
After impressing for Norsdjaelland, the 20-year-old sealed a five-year deal to Ajax last summer, amid reported interest from Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan. He began life at Johan Cruyff Stadium brightly but suffered an injury setback on his Champions League debut against Ajax. It took him a while to get back into his element, scoring two goals towards the end of the season as The Lancers won the Eredivisie. In Ghana colours, he has two goals and two assists to his name so far.
That a 17-year-old plying his trade in Ghana’s second division has become a major topic of transfer speculation in Europe, tells a lot about his talent. After featuring for Ghana at U17 level in January, he earned a quick promotion to the U20 side in February and the senior Black Stars set-up where he is still chasing his debut despite making the last two squads. After a deal to Bayer Leverkusen fell through recently, he has been linked to Liverpool, Spanish outfit Villareal and Portuguese fold Sporting.
Kamal Sowah – Leicester City
On loan at Belgian outfit Leuven in the last three seasons, the 21-year-old could be handed a first-team opportunity at Leicester this season. Last term, he hit eight goals and six assists in 34 appearances in the Belgian First Division A. In June, he received his first Ghana call-up but had to turn down the invitation.
Mohammed Salisu – Southampton
His first season in the Premier League was disturbed by injuries but he did show what he was capable of towards the end of the campaign. In the coming 2021-22 term, the 22-year-old centre-back will certainly have a lot to prove to the Saints. Like Sowah, Salisu is yet to join the Ghana national team despite receiving his first call-up in 2019.
Forson Amankwah – Red Bull Salzburg
Last season, the 18-year-old made a big step up, leaving the Ghana Premier League for Salzburg who promptly sent him out on loan to feeder side Liefering. At his new club, he scored three times and provided four assists in 10 matches. Ahead of the new season, he has already featured for Salzburg in a pre-season game, and it is only a matter of time before he begins to make major headlines.
