According to statistics expert CIES Football Observatory, new Super Eagles boy Calvin Bassey has been recognised as the best Scottish Premiership air blocker playmaker.
The result was published on their website after a study conducted to determine the best performing outfield players in 32 European leagues.
In the weekly post, players were classified into 15 technical profiles and ranked according to their performance level, with respect to teammates and opponents, their playing time, as well as their team and league sporting strength.
In the results published on Monday, the Glasgow Rangers left-back was ranked as the best air blocker playmaker in their league, a recognition that celebrates a player’s ability to play from the back.
Bassey was impressive for the Gers as they came from behind to beat Old Firm rivals Celtic 2-1 in the Scottish Cup semi-final after extra-time in Hampden Park on Sunday.
The 22-year-old has been fantastic for Rangers this season and has made a total of 43 appearances for the Scottish side across all competitions.
There was also recognition for some Nigerians in the CIES Football Observatory with CSKA Moscow’s Chidera Ejuke ranked highest in the shooter infiltrator category in the Russian League, which is for players with the best shooting and take on.
In Slovakia, Rabiu Ibrahim, Slovan Bratislava midfielder, was rated the best filter man playmaker, while Spartak Trnava winger Yusuf Bamidele claimed the all-rounder target man prize.
