Egyptian player agent Hazem Fatooh has revealed the reasons why Ghanain striker Richmond Boakye could not join Zamalek in January this year.
Fatooh, who represents Boakye in the Arabian countries hinted that his client was almost set to move to Zamalek but the Egyptian side signed a different player a decision which the club later apologized.
“Ex-Zamalek’s head of transfers Khaled Refaat had told me that the club wanted to sign a strong well-built striker.” Fatooh told Al-Nahar TV
“I offered him Richmond Boakye, the former Juventus striker, as I was working on marketing him in the Gulf area.”
“The player has had a bright career so far, the last club he played for was Red Star Belgrade, he also played in Juventus, Atalanta, and the Ghanaian national team.”
“Khaled Refaat informed me that Richmond had been suggested to him before, but no one succeeded in getting the player’s approval.”
“I contacted Boakye and convinced him that Zamalek is a big club. I gave him a few examples such as Ahmed Hossam Mido, Amr Zaki, and Mostafa Mohamed, and that convinced him to join the Whites.”
“I sent an official e-mail to Khaled and he told me that he will respond on January 30 and that he will discuss the financial terms with the striker. The deal would have cost Zamalek less than what they paid for Jaiziri.
“After that, Khaled contacted me and informed me that he was surprised that the club signed Jaziri. He apologized to me, and I, in return, contacted the Ghanaian player and explained to him what happened,” he added.
After the failed move, Boakye signed a short term deal with Polish outfit Gornik Zabrze
