Aston Villa were in pole position to pick 3 maximum points at Villa Park on match day 27 of the English Championship in what was a keenly contested encounter with Preston North End.
Ghanaian winger Albert Adomah had them in front after just 22 minutes of action with the Villans in complete control right from the outset and the Ghanaian international’s strike had an inevitability with it.
Jack Grealish played a through ball looking for Gabriel Agbonlahor and when Preston goalkeeper rushed from his line to save the ball, Adomah was on hand to take advantage of the ensuing battle between the pair.
And on the 36th minute, Villa had a penalty shout much to the dismay of the Preston players. Adomah stepped up and made no mistake from six yards out. At that point, the Claret and Blue looked like going on further to consolidate their lead and pick 3 crucial points but Preston would rally strongly in the second half to snatch a really important draw with Jordan Hugill hitting a brace of his own. And a really disappointed Steve Bruce stressed after the game.
“We had a really great opportunity to put them to the sword. We were terrific for an hour and every time we went forward I thought we would score. To be fair to them, they are resilient a mob and they are epitomized by their center-forward, Hugill who is not easy on the eye, but is very effective. We gave away two sloppy goals but the light at the end of the tunnel for me is that the first half was easily the best we have played.”
Preston North End lie 11th on the English Championship standings with 40 points after 27 games whiles Aston Villa are two places down at 13th with 36 points.
