Ghanaian midfielder Lawrence Agyekum has expressed his delight after scoring his maiden goal for the Black Stars during their emphatic 4-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in the third-place match of the 2025 Unity Cup.
The 23-year-old, who recently secured a permanent move to Belgian side Cercle Brugge from Red Bull Salzburg, was instrumental in Ghana’s dominant display last Saturday at the Gtech Community Stadium in London.
Agyekum capped off a brilliant individual performance by netting his first international goal, helping Ghana seal a convincing victory to end the tournament on a high. Sharing his excitement on social media after the game, the midfielder wrote:
“Another wonderful experience with the Black Stars. First international goal bagged. Grateful to God Almighty,” via X (formerly Twitter).
The Black Stars wasted no time asserting their dominance, with captain Jordan Ayew opening the scoring in the 6th minute. Razak Simpson followed up with a second goal in the 12th minute, before debutant Mohammed Fuseini added a third before the half-hour mark. Agyekum then put the icing on the cake in the second half with his well-taken goal.
Agyekum’s performance further strengthens his case for regular inclusion in the national team setup, especially as Ghana looks to integrate new talent into the squad during this transitional phase.
Having impressed during his loan spell in Belgium, Agyekum’s permanent transfer to Cercle Brugge marks a new chapter in his club career—one that aligns with his recent rise in international football.
The Black Stars will next regroup in September for Matchday 7 and 8 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where they will face Chad and Mali.
