Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo has opened up about facing rejection from several clubs during his formative years in football, including prestigious ones like Chelsea and Arsenal.
Despite emerging as Bournemouth’s second-highest scorer this season, Semenyo disclosed that he experienced setbacks when attempting to join the youth academies of renowned clubs such as Chelsea and Arsenal.
“I think I went to Millwall four times, went to Tottenham, went to Arsenal, went to Chelsea, I went to so many clubs and I just got the same result: never making it. I remember Palace being the last place being rejected,” Semenyo said in an interview with SuperSport.
“Being so young I couldn’t really cop with the emotions of rejection I was like, I felt like I needed to take a break, go back to friends, go back to school just focus and recuperate, give myself a year to calm myself down cause I felt like the rejection was so much.”
Despite facing setbacks early in his career, Semenyo acknowledged that those experiences significantly influenced his mentality and character, shaping the player he is today.
“That was obviously a tough part of my life but yeah I felt like it built character and the mentality I have now, so I’m grateful.”
It’s been a standout season for Bournemouth, currently holding 11th place in the league with a record-breaking 48 points.
