Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Ogum has expressed concern over the impact of venue changes on the Ghana Premier League, particularly following the closure of the Baba Yara Stadium and Accra Sports Stadium for renovations due to CAF regulations.
In an interview with 3Sports’ Michael Oti Adjei, Ogum emphasized that the frequent changes in home grounds could disrupt team dynamics and player performance. He noted that the need to constantly adapt to new venues can hinder a team’s flow and confidence.
“Yes, I think so. Because you have to always be on the move; today you’re at one venue, the next time you have to go to a different place due to standards not being met,” he said. “This affects the flow of the team, as players need time to adjust to new environments. The more they play on a particular pitch, the more confidence they gain.”
Ogum also highlighted that familiar surroundings help players mentally prepare for matches, stating, “When you have a mental picture of how the crowd will be, it aids in your preparation. Moving from one venue to another takes time for adjustment.”
Despite the challenges, Ogum remains hopeful about the loyalty of Kotoko fans, stating that their support transcends venue changes. “If you go to Obuasi and you do well, these supporters will travel and come. They don’t care about the distance; once Kotoko is winning, our supporters will come,” he added.
Asante Kotoko is set to face Young Apostles in their first home game at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium, and Ogum is optimistic that his players will quickly adapt to their new surroundings.
