President and Bankroller for Division One League side Asokwa Deportivo SC, Abdulai Amidu has express warm approval or admiration of Black Stars head coach CK Akonnor.
Following the recent call-up by the senior national team of Ghana coach, the vastly experienced football administrator has expressed his gratitude to the Black Stars gaffer for inviting three Division One League top scorers in the 32-man squad for the AFCON qualifiers games against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe.
“I want to take this opportunity to commend our Black Stars coach CK Akonnor for including three players from the Division One League in his team to prepare for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe”, he said.
According to Mr. Amidu, the call-up of the players is a step in the right direction and would serve as a motivational tool for all the players plying their trade in Ghana’s Second Tier Football League.
“Inviting these three players is a great idea by the coach and I strongly believe this will urge on other players playing in the Division One League to do their maximum best in the competition because they will now be aware that if only you do well your chance may come in the subsequent call-up “, Mr. Amidu told SPORTSworldGhana in an exclusive interview.
Furthermore, the Asokwa-based Division One League team owner advised other coaches to cast their nets wide enough to see some of the enormous potential and talented players playing in the country’s second-tier league to hand them call-ups into the various national teams in the new future.
“What CK Akonnor has done is unprecedented in this country because our coaches don’t invite Division One League players to the mainstream Black Stars team and for that matter, I would like to suggest to other national team coaches to emulate what the Stars coach has done this time around so the players playing in the lower tier would not be left out when building a national team for competitions.”
“I also believe this is a big motivation for the Division One League board and this will certainly be a grounds for the leaders of the competition to do more because their work and efforts has been recognized by the senior head coach in the country.”
“Then also I want to take this opportunity to advise team owners of Division One League clubs to see this a big success and a great opportunity for us to do more to develop a lot of talents who would, in the long run, be a national asserts for our country to bounce back to where it has always belonged”, he added.
In conclusion, Abdulai Amidu, the founder of Asokwa Deportivo SC also had a word of advice for the players who were handed their debut call-up and the ones playing in the Division One League.
“My advice to those who have been invited to the Black Stars camp from Division One teams to go all out and enjoy themselves and do what they know best and will like to motivate those who didn’t get the chance this time around to keep working hard and stay disciplined in their day to day football career to be successful and reach the highest level in football in the near future.”
