Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana is on the verge of joining Italian Serie A side Atalanta in a deal reportedly worth €16 million plus €2 million in performance-related bonuses, according to multiple sources close to the negotiations.
The 22-year-old Southampton forward is expected to sign a long-term contract with the Bergamo-based club that will run until 2029, with an option to extend it by an additional year to 2030.
Atalanta have been tracking Sulemana for months and have now stepped up efforts to finalize the deal as they look to reinforce their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. The club, fresh off a strong season in both domestic and European competitions, sees the Ghana international as a key addition to Gian Piero Gasperini’s high-energy system.
Sulemana joined Southampton from French Ligue 1 outfit Stade Rennais in January 2023 but endured a turbulent time in England due to injuries and the Saints’ relegation from the Premier League. Despite flashes of brilliance and standout pace, he made just 26 league appearances, scoring once and providing one assist during the 2023/24 campaign.
While Southampton had hoped to retain his services for their Championship promotion push, the club has been open to letting him leave at the right price—especially with the player keen to return to top-tier football in Europe.
Sulemana’s potential move to Atalanta would not only revive his career at club level but could also elevate his chances of becoming a consistent starter for the Black Stars of Ghana ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the next Africa Cup of Nations.
Final discussions are believed to be progressing well, with medicals and an official unveiling expected once all documents are signed.
If the deal goes through, Sulemana will join a growing list of Ghanaians in Serie A and become the latest African talent to feature in Atalanta’s dynamic and fast-paced setup.
