Mark Addo, Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has suggested that the Baba Yara Stadium will become the new home ground for the senior national team, the Black Stars.
Addo’s comments came after the team’s hard-fought victory against Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where the stadium was filled to capacity with passionate fans.
During an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM, the Chairman of the Black Stars management committee expressed his gratitude to the fans and hinted that Kumasi would host most of their future games.
“The support was amazing; Kumasi is always amazing, and the love is deep. We cannot thank the crowd and the whole country enough for their support,” he said.
He added, “I’m sure the team will make us proud when we go to Angola. Most of our games, like this one, will be played in Kumasi.”
The Black Stars secured a late 1-0 win against Angola thanks to Antoine Semenyo’s 96th-minute goal. With seven points from three games, they currently sit at the top of Group E as they seek to qualify for their 10th AFCON appearance.
Their next match is against Angola on Monday, March 27, in Luanda at the Estádio 11 de Novembro. The Black Stars aim to end Ghana’s 41-year trophy drought in the AFCON tournament.
