The search for Chris Houghton’s successor continues with many coaches declaring their interest in the vacant Black Stars head coach job.
Fred Pappoe, former vice president of the Ghana Football Association has advised the FA and the Sports Ministry about hiring a Grade A coach. He revealed that the cost involved is always high hence the nation must be fully prepared financially.
“If Ghana intends to engage high-profile coaches of the calibre of Herve Renard, a two-time AFCON winner, or others noted for their successful track record, then as a country we must be prepared to make a significant financial investment”, Pappoe said.
Fred Pappoe urged Ghana to have plans concerning what the nation can pay to hire a coach for the Black Stars.
“At the end of the day, we must also be clear in our minds to define what our wallet could be for that position. Are we going for a coach that we’ll be paying €35,000 or €40,000 a month?”, asked Pappoe.
The former vice president of GFA suggested that Ghana going in for a top-notch coach who will receive a huge sum of money will not be acceptable to Ghanaians.
“If we think that is what we can conveniently afford, or we want to go for the crème de la crème of coaches like Herve Renard and the rest, who would be calling for huge sums of money, that may appear repugnant to Ghanaians,”
Ghana endured a horrible AFCON in Ivory Coast by exiting the group stage which subsequently led to the sacking of Chris Houghton. Ghana Football Association has set 2nd February as the deadline for the application for Chris Houghton’s replacement.
