Belgium-Based Black Stars midfielder Nana Opoku Amponmah has humbly advised Ghanaians to stop forcing Ghana Captain Asamoah Gyan to hang his boots ‘prematurely’ at the international level .
The Belgium-based attacker who made Coach Kwesi Appiah’s 23-man squad for Ghana’s Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone believes Asamoah Gyan still has a lot to offer the country and the young players in the Black Stars team.
Gyan, who holds the record for the most goals scored by an African at the FIFA World Cup as well as the all time top scorer for the country, was heavily criticized upon the release of Kwesi Appiah’s squad for this month’s Cup of Nations qualifier clash with Sierra Leone.
But the in-form Waasland-Beveren holds the view that the incessant attempt by some Ghanaians to ensure Gyan retires as soon as possible is unjustifiable hence must be patient with the Kayserispor striker despite not enjoying enough playing at the club level.
”I think Ghanaians should be patient with Asamoah Gyan because he has done a lot for the country so forcing him to retire prematurely from the national team won’t be the best,”Amponmah told SportsworldGhana.com exclusively on Wednesday.

To him, the young boys in the current Black Stars team have so much to learn from the 32 –year old intelligent striker.
He continued ‘’ Some of us are privileged to be playing with Asamoah Gyan and we are taking that opportunity to learn so many things from him so I will plead with Ghanaians support Asamoah Gyan to achieve a lot of success rather than always questioning his inclusion in the Black Stars team’’
