In Algiers, Belouizdad once again drew with Al Ahly. This is the fourth time the Algerian side has squared off against Al Ahly Cairo but has not been able to score a single goal against the Egyptian giants.
Belouizdad missed a golden opportunity to get much closer to qualification after not being able to score from 15 goal attempts with 5 of them on target. Al Ahly couldn’t record a single shot on target from a total of 7 goal attempts.
Teams have lacked confidence when facing Al Ahly in recent years as they squander a whole lot of clear-cut chances when they face the Egyptians.
The goalless draw in Algiers was a good scoreline for both Medeama SC and Yanga as it was the results that were going to keep them in the competition.
Al Ahly tops the group with 6 points, Belouizdad follows with 5 points, 3rd place is Yanga With 5 but is behind Belouizdad because of the superior H2H record the Algerians have over the Tanzanians. Medeama SC occupy the last slot with 4 points.
The group is wide open as all four teams have to fancy their chance to progress. Everyone’s destiny is in his own hands as a win and a draw (4 points) from the last 2 games will qualify any team from the group.
Ghana’s Medeama will host Al Ahly in Kumasi in MD5. A win will put the Mauve and Yellow in a fine position as a draw will probably end their chances.
Young Africans in Tanzania will welcome Belouizdad who thrashed the Tanzanians 3-0 in MD1. A lot is at stake for both sides with Yanga gearing up for revenge and also snatching all three points to brighten their chances of qualifying for the Knockout phase.
Next weekend will be a great weekend for Group D with two huge fixtures set to determine the features of all four teams. Group D is undoubtedly the group of death as none of them has proved to be ahead of the rest. Just 2 points separate the four teams. The level of competition has been great and the last four games in the group will be keenly contested.
