Chairman of Parliament’s Select Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture, Hon. Ernest Norgbey, has offered a different perspective on the Black Stars’ recent resurgence, attributing their back-to-back victories in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers more to national spirit and motivation than to tactical brilliance.
While head coach Otto Addo and his technical team have received credit for restoring discipline and focus within the squad, the Ashaiman MP believes the emotional and psychological lift the team received from the nation played a more decisive role.
“Personally, the winning of the Black Stars is not because of technical expediency. I want to believe that it is because of the motivation and aura of the country. I can not equate it to the technical bench,” Norgbey said in an interview with GHOne TV’s Benjamin Yamoah.
His remarks follow Ghana’s impressive 5-0 win over Chad and 3-0 victory against Madagascar in March, results that have brought renewed optimism to supporters after a challenging period for the senior national team.
According to Norgbey, the overwhelming support from fans and the positive atmosphere around the team helped to reignite the players’ confidence and performance on the pitch.
With these wins, Ghana has positioned itself strongly in the World Cup qualification race. The Black Stars are expected to return to action in May for the Unity Cup before resuming their qualification campaign in September.
