Accra High Court Financial Division Two, on Wednesday, 20th May, 20202, quashed a suit by player, Emmanuel Clottey asking the court to compel Asante Kotoko to pay a fine imposed on him by FIFA.
The court, has also ordered the player to pay a fine of Five thousand Ghana Cedis- GHS5,000 compensation to the porcupine Warriors.
Background:
The former Berekum Chelsea striker, filed a case to the court in August, to compel Asante Kotoko, to pay the $180,000 fine slapped on him by the world’s football governing body- FIFA as a result of his contact violation against Tunisian club Esperance de Tunis.
Clottey joined the Ghanaian giants in 2015 but had his position challenged by FIFA as Esperance claimed they had a valid contract with him as at the time he signed for Kotoko.
The Porcupine warriors, were subsequently found guilty for using the striker in a Premier League match.
Kotoko recently struck a deal with Esperance to finally settle the debt which rose $240,000.
This means that, Asante Kotoko, now has the power to chase Emmanuel Clottey to pay all expenses incurred in dealing with the matter including the money they have paid to Esperance.
